Shock of Daylight is the music of Scottish-born-London-based artist Danny Currie. Formerly a post-punk guitarist and member of an experimental noise duo, Shock of Daylight began with rough demos intended for a band project in late 2012. These compositions gradually spun away from the guitar/bass/drums format, towards the introspective, experimental terrain of his other outlets, eventually settling somewhere in between on 2013’s Deep Sea Breath EP; a collection of short instrumentals which sit somewhere near the intersection of ambient electronica, noise, shoegaze and post-rock.
A year later comes Shock of Daylight’s second release, the more mature and confident Traumer EP, which sees elements of krautrock and minimalist music entering the mix. A debut album is set to follow in late 2014.
“The passion and concentration of an artist deeply absorbed in his work can be heard in the trickles of piano and rumbling of bass….Currie’s gift for creating sound that gives birth to a vision is astounding, and will undoubtedly lead to many more exciting projects.” - You’ve Probably Never Heard of It
“Somewhere between the ambient shoegaze of Ulrich Schnauss and Fuck Buttons’ darker menace, debut EP Deep Sea Breath is a collection of fuzzy edged instrumentals that absorb and delight in equal measure.” - Nugazer
“Shock of Daylight doesn’t seem to allow himself to fall into any one individual genre. Elements from various genres all come into the mix, giving Shock of Daylight a wonderful vein of instrumental rock that is more or less unique.” - The CD Critic
